Jozi comes alive to the sound of music the moment the sun sets behind the tall buildings. Here are five of the top music spots if you are looking for some great tunes after dark, where tapping your feet is the order of the day. The jazz scene is especially diverse and eclectic; almost as varied as those living in this buzzing world-class African metropolis. The programmes and musicians are often unpredictable and spontaneous as new voices and faces emerge and find their way to the numerous bars, stages and clubs.

  • The Orbit in Braamfontein

Niki’s is conveniently placed and is almost directly across from the Market Theatre – great for theatre attendees.

  • Katzy’s Live Rosebank

  • The Marabi Club Doornfontein

The Marabi Club is one of Jozi’s best kept little secrets and is almost invisible from the street as it is tucked away behind a discreet metal door and dark canopy. Boasting a vibrant history depicted through the attention to detail in the décor, this eclectic little spot offers much in the way of fine tunes.

  • Winnie’s Soul & Jazz Restaurant Wendywood
